Claire Jantz and Leslie Morlock report on their recent urban land use change research in the Upper Delaware

This project focused on the issue of regional growth pressure and urban development in the UDRB. The 2011 report discusses growth trends in the study area, and techniques for creating a land change model to generate forecasts of urban growth, based on historic growth patterns.

Jantz and Morlock found that the SLEUTH urban growth model performance was enhanced by incorporating local knowledge and data sets. They were able to generate several useful products to be used in additional applications, including: a 20+ urban land cover time series, forecast data covering a wide range of scenarios, and a calibrated urban land cover model that can be re-applied to new scenarios.
